Hello everyone!!! It's nice to be here...I have never used to website until today.
I've been off of social media for a while now...months, I think. I switched to a flip phone a few months ago because social media nowadays (or at least the ones I used to use) were so stressful for me...but I've missed writing online and making internet friends with similar interests to mine.
My name is Elisabeth! I put a lot of my interests in my profile. I don't really know how this site works but I'll get the hang of it soon enough, I'm sure!

Today is Wednesday, and I didn't do much... I haven't been doing much of anything for the past...few months. Me and my family are in the process of moving...but we haven't really decided on a location yet. So we are stuck for a bit-- waiting on stuff. It's been difficult...and it's winter too, and I don't like winter because I can't go on walks much, which is something I love to do. In the summer, we go camping, we have a camper in a rural area, a state over...but the campground it's in is closed during the fall and winter months...I've been so bored!!! I keep busy with work tho...and I've been reading a lot too. (I'm reading 'The Summer Book' by Tove Jansson now-- it's good so far!)
But anyway....Overall, I've been bored. Which is why I'm making an online journal! Reach out if you'd like to talk, please!!! ^ Thanks for reading! Byebye!!!

Hi. I see you've subscribed to my journal, which is fine, but I don't usually post a lot.

Since you're a writer, you can search for people who like the same fandoms. At the top of your profile page, there's a search bar. Type in your fandom interest and find people or communities who share your tastes.

Dreamwidth isn't like "regular" social sites -- it doesn't have an algorithm to "suggest" people to read or follow; you have to go out and find them. If you don't follow many people, it's a quiet place. If you find lots of people to follow, there will be plenty of posts on your reading page.

You might like to subscribe to [community profile] fancake. It's a fanfic-rec community. Lots of times, the recs may not be in fandoms you read -- but it's something to see on your reading page. And if someone recs a fic in a fandom you follow, that's a journal you can subscribe to and share an interest with.

You can, if you like, also check out Latest Things. It shows the latest posts (with a 5-minute delay) from all over DW. If you see something you like, you can check out that person's journal and subscribe if you find them interesting. But it has so many posts that I don't subscribe -- just keep the addy handy to check out occasionally.

Anyway, welcome aboard. Most of the people on DW are pretty nice; I hope you enjoy being here.

>>Hello everyone!!! It's nice to be here...I have never used to website until today.<<

If you're new here, then you might like [community profile] newcomers which provides resources about Dreamwidth. You can introduce yourself in the Friending Meme if you wish.

>> I switched to a flip phone a few months ago because social media nowadays (or at least the ones I used to use) were so stressful for me...<<

That's very sensible. Some of it is downright hazardous. :(

>> but I've missed writing online and making internet friends with similar interests to mine.<<

Dreamwidth is great for that. You might consider:

* The Add Me communities. Read entries or post your own.

* Use the Interests page to search for things you like, and it will give you both individual blogs and communities.

* [community profile] goals_on_dw has a lot of activity in the lead up to January 1 and will continue being busy in January as people share their goals or resolutions for 2025. You can share yours, or watch to see what other folks are doing.

* [community profile] snowflake_challenge is one of the biggest events all year, running in January. If you are into any aspect of fandom -- books, movies, comics, etc. -- then check it out because that's a great opportunity to find both friends and common interests.

>>Me and my family are in the process of moving...but we haven't really decided on a location yet. <<

Oh, how awful! O_O

>> I don't like winter because I can't go on walks much, which is something I love to do. In the summer, we go camping, we have a camper in a rural area, a state over...but the campground it's in is closed during the fall and winter months...I've been so bored!!! <<

Check out [community profile] common_nature, which is mostly pictures of other people's walks outdoors. You might also enjoy [community profile] gardening and [community profile] birdfeeding.

Since you like going outdoors and winter frustrates you, have you considered exploring winter sports? Those only close in the warm season! Even if your area doesn't offer much, you could take a holiday vacation somewhere that does. It's not all breakneck stuff either -- there are things like cross-country skiing and snowmobiling that don't require a ton of talent, and places have equipment you can rent.

Also, definitely check to see if there is a Christmas Bird Count circle near you. The organizers will definitely know places where you can go outdoors in this season to search for birds.

Feel free to drop by my blog, too. I love talking about nature and routinely discuss my yard. Our next project will be planting a pair of hollies that we just bought. I also do a Poetry Fishbowl each month where people can give me prompts. Next up will be Tuesday, January 7, 2025 with a theme of "short forms."

Yello! I stumbled across your blog, and I have to say: you seem very interesting :) I'd love to switch to flip phone one day to detox from social media, but I currently have so many friends on social media that I'd feel bad leaving them. I honestly don't take too kindly to the winter either: it's so cold and it gets dark so early that I'm tired all the time. Only part I enjoy is the snow. I enjoy going on walks whenever I feel the motivation, but it can be kind of strenuous on my body, lol.
